The whole system in one file

A backup that holds the database, recordings, sounds and settings in a single file.

One button now downloads everything a Kahevo system is.

What is in the file

  • the database: every extension, rule, menu, schedule, contact and log entry,
  • the storage folder: recordings, voicemail, greetings, library sounds, faxes,
  • the settings files of both programs,
  • and a short note explaining how to restore.

One zip file. A recording-heavy system can leave recordings out to keep it small.

Two ways to take one

  • The Backup page, which streams the file to your browser as it is built.
  • A command for a scheduled job, which writes a dated file to a folder and keeps the last few.

Every backup taken or attempted is kept on record and listed on the page.

Restoring

Restoring is a command, not a page. It replaces everything, so it is done with the system stopped, and a backup with recordings is too big to upload through a browser anyway.

It refuses to start, before changing anything, if the file is incomplete, comes from a newer version than the one installed, or was made with a different encryption key.

Old into new

A backup from an older Kahevo restores into a newer one. The restore rebuilds the database as it was when the backup was taken, loads the data, and then upgrades it step by step, exactly as an ordinary update would.

Handle with care

The file holds the keys and every SIP password. It is as sensitive as the server itself. Store it somewhere you would store the server.

Where it stands

Taking backups is solid. We are still proving the restore on more systems before we call it finished, and we will say so until it is. Until then, a snapshot of the virtual machine alongside it is cheap insurance.
