Standby nodes: the plan for failover

What happens when the server goes dark? Our plan for a second node that takes the calls. Planned, not built.

Every MSP gets asked the same question sooner or later: what happens when the server dies? Today we want to tell you how we plan to answer it, and to be plain that this is a plan. None of it is built yet.

The idea

Two or three Kahevo servers on your own network, each one a node, working as one phone system. When one goes dark, another takes the calls. When it comes back, it waits for a moment that cuts no call.

No clustering software to license, and nothing to learn that is not Kahevo.

What stands today

PieceWhere it stands
The whole system in one backup fileBuilt
Phones stay registered if the database drops outBuilt
A branch box keeps its office talking when its link is downBuilt

The honest part

We have no date. It is next in line, and we will say here when the first node takes over a real call. If failover matters to your customers, tell us how they would want it to behave.

Curious whether Kahevo fits?

Tell us what you run today and how many phones, and we will tell you honestly. Mahalo for reading.
