Record an extension's calls, outside only or all, with each side on its own channel.
Recording can be switched on per extension.
Three settings
Off, outside calls only, or all calls. It is an administrator's setting. Most offices that record want outside calls only: conversations with customers, not chat between desks.
Two channels
Each side of the conversation is kept on its own channel: the recorded person on the left, the other party on the right. When two people talk over each other, which is most of an argument, you can still follow both.
What is and is not recorded
- A conversation between two people is recorded.
- Time on hold is cut out, music and all.
- Voicemail, menus and ringing are not part of it.
- A transferred call becomes a new recording for the new conversation.
Small files
A recording starts as a plain uncompressed file. A few minutes after the call ends, a background task compresses it.
- As first recorded
- After compressing
That is about a sixth of the size, and the work happens away from the call service, so it never gets in the way of a call.
Listening
A Recordings page, for administrators, searches by date, name and number, and plays or downloads each one. The call log shows a player beside any recorded call.
Retention
Recordings are removed after a number of days you choose. Ninety is the default. Set it to zero to keep them until you delete them.
The legal part
Pidgin Talk does not announce to callers that they are being recorded. What notice the law requires differs by place and by purpose, and it is the business's job to give it. The usual way is a line in your greeting.
