Listen, whisper, barge

A manager who is allowed to can join a colleague's call: to listen, to coach quietly, or to speak to everyone.

A manager asked for a way to "jump in" on a call. Here it is, in three sizes.

Three ways to join

WayWho hears the managerDial
ListenNobody*81 and the extension
WhisperOnly the colleague*82 and the extension
BargeBoth people on the call*83 and the extension

Once in, pressing 1, 2 or 3 moves between them. A short beep, once, twice or three times, tells the manager which they are in.

Without dialing a code

There is a Join a call button on the web phone, in the app and beside each call on the dashboard. It lists the calls that can be joined, with the three choices next to each.

It can also ring through on the manager's own desk phone: press the button on the screen, and the desk phone answers by itself, already listening. Nobody has to sit at the computer with a headset.

Who may

Nobody, until an administrator says so. It is a switch on the extension, off for everyone. Someone who is not allowed gets the same answer as dialing a number that does not exist.

Every use is written to the system log: who joined whose call, how, and each change of how.

How it works

Three voices on one call need mixing: the colleague must hear the caller and the manager together. That mixing is done inside the Kahevo Rust Engine. The call itself is not disturbed. The two original parties go on exactly as before, and a copy of each voice goes to the mixer.

That mixer is also the first piece of conference rooms, which are next.

The fine print

  • It works on calls the Rust engine carries.
  • One person can join a call at a time.
  • A transfer or a park ends it.
  • Kahevo tells nobody on the call. What the law requires where you are, and what your staff should be told, is the business's to settle.

Built and in testing.

Curious whether Kahevo fits?
