Make one key layout and apply it to a whole department, with a preview and an undo.
"Sales wants the same buttons on every phone" used to mean an afternoon.
One layout, many phones
A key profile is a named set of keys. Put a department on it and every phone in the department gets those keys. Change the profile later and they all change.
Room for your own
A profile does not have to fill every key. Wherever it leaves one unset, between its keys or after them, each person can set their own. The receptionist gets the department's keys and still keeps the three speed dials only they use.
On the Phone keys page, the profile's keys are shown locked in place, with the free ones around them.
Smart about people
Applying one layout to many phones raises small puzzles, and the system settles them:
- A line key is always that phone's own line.
- Nobody gets a button that watches themselves. If the layout has a busy light for Malia, Malia's own phone leaves that key empty, or closes the gap if you prefer.
- A light for someone who has left is dropped.
- A label nobody typed follows whoever the key is for.
Preview, then apply
Every bulk change shows a preview first: each phone, with its keys as they would be. Nothing is changed until you say so.
Undo
Before applying, the system saves what each phone had. One button puts the last change back. For the day the layout meant for Sales goes to the whole company.
Other bulk changes
- Copy one person's keys to others.
- Take a group off a profile.
- Clear keys.
All with the same preview and the same undo.
