Departments, pickup and paging

Decide who sees and reaches whom inside one business, answer a colleague's ringing phone, and page your own department.

A business is not one room. Sales should not have to scroll past the warehouse, and nobody should be able to listen in on the accounts office. Departments are how one Kahevo keeps the parts of a business apart where they should be. They are built, and in testing.

Who sees and reaches whom

Each department chooses two things: what its people are shown of the others, and how the others get to its people.

SettingWhat it means
OpenEveryone sees and reaches its people
PrivateHidden from other departments' directories and lamps, but still reachable
ClosedHidden, and not called or messaged from outside

Reception can be let in to a closed department all the same. Calls from outside, and calls that come through a menu, a ring group or a queue, are never held back.

A manager for each

A department manager sees only their own people: their extensions, their calls and their recordings. If they are allowed to listen in on calls, it is only their own department's.

Three things you can dial

  • *84 answers whichever phone in your department has rung longest. Add an extension to answer that one.
  • *85 pages your department: every free desk phone plays your voice on speaker.
  • Who may dial what: hold a person or a whole department to inside calls, local, national or international.

The honest part

All of it is in testing, with simulated phones so far. Paging another department, or the whole business, is not built yet. And a rule for emergency numbers has to be marked always allowed before anyone is held to inside calls only. The page tells you that too.
