The call log and a new system log, both searchable by date and keyword.
The Logs page has been rebuilt, and it has a new neighbor.
The call log
Searching used to load a table and filter it in your browser, which was fine for a hundred calls. Now the search runs in the database and comes back a page at a time, so it is quick however long you have been running.
- With no dates given, it shows the last seven days.
- Five hundred entries a page.
- Search by name, number or how the call ended.
- Dates are typed in the system's time zone, the same for everyone.
The system log
Beside it is a second log: every warning and error from the system itself, in plain words.
- A provider refused the password.
- A phone of an unknown model asked for settings.
- An address was blocked after too many failed sign-ins.
- A call had poor audio.
When something goes wrong at 2 a.m., that is where it will have been written down.
What does not go in
Ordinary activity. A system log that records every routine event is one nobody reads. Only things an administrator might need to act on are written.
Never in the way
Entries are queued and written in batches in the background, so logging never slows a call. If the database is unreachable, entries are dropped quietly and not piled up without limit; the server's own console still has them.
Entries older than ninety days are removed.
Why two logs
The call log answers "what happened to that call?" The system log answers "is something wrong?" They are different questions, asked by different people at different times.
