Kahevo in your pocket

Work begins on an iPhone app: your office extension on your own phone.

We have started on an iPhone app.

The idea

Your office extension, on the phone you already carry. Call from your business number, not your personal one. Take office calls on the lanai. Stop giving customers your mobile number.

What is in it

Four tabs, and they are the four you would guess:

  • Keypad, to dial.
  • Recents, your own calls from the last thirty days.
  • Contacts: colleagues first, then the shared list and your own.
  • Voicemail, to listen, call back and delete.

Tap anyone to call them. Swipe sideways to move between tabs.

Keys, too

The buttons set for your desk phone are in the app, with live lights. See who is on a call, see who is parked and for how long, tap a park line to pick the caller up. During a call, tap a colleague to send the call to them.

A phone and nothing else

The app does not manage the system. No settings pages, no admin section, even for an administrator. Managing a phone system is a job for a browser, where there is room to do it properly. The app's job is to ring.

Private by default

A voicemail message plays through the earpiece, like a call, and moves to the loudspeaker only if you ask. Nobody should have their messages read to a waiting room.

The look

The app is where Kahevo's colors come from. Dark mode is the open sea off the islands, light mode is the shore, and hanging up is the red of ʻōhiʻa lehua.

Where it stands

Early. It places and takes calls while it is open. Ringing while it is closed is the hard part, and that is next.

Curious whether Kahevo fits?
